PROFILE

Michael J. Sherrill, Ph.D.




Ten years of missionary service in Japan partnering with churches in Honshu and Hokkaido in student outreach ministry, preaching, teaching and church leadership development.

 

 

Five years of academic service as associate professor of Intercultural Communication at Hokusei Gakuen University teaching 400-level courses in communication, culture and Christianity.

 

 

Research and writing in missions and evangelism, church growth, church history and Christianity in Japan using quantitative and qualitative sociological research methods. 

 

 

My academic training embraces intercultural studies, mission, communication, cultural anthropology, sociology, and theology.  I am committed to teaching and research in these areas and the ongoing cultivation of innovative scholarship. 

 

 

As an ordained minister I also carry a concern for the development of Christian leadership and God's redemptive mission in the world.  It is my ongoing endeavor to integrate the pursuit of academic excellence with holistic Christian formation in such a way that makes a vital contribution to the academic community.

 

 

My wife, Teresa, and I have been married for fourteen years.  We have three wonderful energetic children, Isaiah (9), Jeremiah (7) and Sophia (4).  My wife's mother, Juanita, also lives with us and we all enjoy an active life as a multi-generational family.
